IoT platform pricing becomes useful when you can connect the price to the deployment you actually need. Device count is only the beginning: dashboards, rules, retention and alert channels also affect the choice.

For Kilo, the published subscription tiers are straightforward to model. Below are examples at 5, 100 and 500 devices, followed by the costs that belong outside the subscription. They are planning examples, not customer invoices.

These are the published monthly platform rates checked September 12, 2026. Gateways are unlimited and there are no per-user seats. Device logs are not the same thing as historical telemetry retention: specify the records you need rather than treating every type of history as interchangeable. See the current plan table.

Is There a Free IoT Platform?

Kilo's Free plan has no expiry or payment-card requirement. Five devices, one dashboard and one rule let you try a small monitoring project. You still need suitable hardware and a working connection. The free platform does not make sensors or mobile data free.

An open-source self-hosted platform is another option. Include hosting, backups, maintenance and the person responsible for operating it when you compare that route with a managed service. Other managed platforms also offer free tiers; check their current limits and conditions.

IoT Platform Pricing at 5, 100 and 500 Devices

For a five-device pilot within the Free allowances, the Kilo subscription is €0/month. A deployment of 100 devices within Pro allowances is €145/month, or €1,740 over twelve months at that monthly rate. At 500 devices within Business allowances, it is €379/month, or €4,548 over twelve months. These calculations do not assume an annual-payment discount.

Count the rules and dashboards as well as the devices. A smaller fleet can need a larger tier because of its other requirements. Confirm the applicable tax treatment and billing terms when purchasing; these subscription examples are not all-in project quotes.

What Costs Sit Outside the IoT Platform Subscription?

Hardware: sensors, gateways, power supplies, antennas and installation materials. Some projects use existing devices; others need new ones. Kilo Electronics lists project hardware separately. Verify the exact model, frequency region and accessories.

Connectivity: internet access for gateways and any SIM/mobile-data service. A built-in LoRaWAN network server does not replace a gateway's backhaul connection.

Optional SMS: Kilo sells SMS credits separately. Select the alert channels and recipients for your project rather than assuming unlimited messages are part of the base price.

Installation and operation: placement, radio-coverage checks, configuration, calibration where required, and battery replacement. Gateway coverage and battery life depend on the environment, device and settings.

How Should You Compare IoT Platform Pricing Models?

Use the same device count, reporting interval, metrics, retention period and operating requirements for every quote. Ask which quantities are metered and what happens when a limit is reached.

Kilo and Datacake both publish a €25/month 25-device tier, but the listed rule allowances differ. Akenza combines a base plan with device and usage charges.
