Building energy monitoring

Building energy monitoring that shows where the money goes

The utility bill tells you how much the building used. It never tells you which floor, which machine, or which habit used it. Wireless submeters break one number into a hundred honest ones, and Kilo turns them into a live picture of where the kilowatts — and the euros — actually go.

Main feed 48.2 kW

01

One bill hides a hundred sins

A single monthly total makes every waste invisible: the compressor that never cycles down, the floor that heats an empty office, the machine that draws standby power all weekend. You pay for all of it — blind.

02

Load patterns live in the dark

Base load at 2 am is pure waste, but nobody is watching at 2 am. Without per-circuit history, you can’t see what runs at night, what spikes at shift change, or what crept upward over the last quarter.

03

Savings projects can’t prove themselves

You replaced the lighting, tuned the HVAC schedule — did it work? With one meter for the whole building, every efficiency measure disappears into the noise of weather and occupancy.

How a building energy monitoring system works with Kilo

1

Meter the feeds that matter

Wireless LoRaWAN or mioty energy meters clamp onto the main feed, floor distribution, and big consumers — no rewiring, and one gateway covers the whole building. Existing meters with MQTT output plug straight in.

2

See the load, floor by floor

Real-time dashboards chart every circuit’s consumption and history side by side, and the 3D building twin maps usage onto floors and zones — so the expensive corner of the building is visible, not theoretical.

3

Let rules catch the waste

Set a rule once: consumption after hours, a base load above target, a spike out of pattern — and Kilo notifies the right person by push, SMS, or email. Rules can also trigger commands to connected equipment.

Hardware, ready to clamp on

Source energy meters, current clamps, and gateways from the Kilo Electronics store — and have us pre-configure them, so each meter arrives named after its circuit and reporting from day one. No IoT team required.

Building energy monitoring FAQ

Do I need an electrician to rewire the building?

No rewiring. Wireless meters with current clamps fit around existing conductors in the distribution board, run on batteries or local power, and send readings over LoRaWAN or mioty — one gateway covers the building. Installation in a panel should still be done by a qualified electrician.

Can Kilo work with meters I already have?

Yes. Any meter or gateway that speaks MQTT can push its readings into Kilo, and any LoRaWAN or mioty meter connects directly — so existing submeters and new wireless ones land on the same dashboard.

How do I find out what runs at night?

Dashboards keep the full consumption history per circuit, so the 2 am base load is a chart, not a guess. Rules can alert you whenever after-hours consumption exceeds the level you set.

Can I verify that an efficiency measure actually saved energy?

Yes. Because each circuit keeps its own history, you can compare the weeks before and after a change on the exact feed you modified — instead of hoping the difference shows up in the utility bill.
