Grain bin monitoring
Grain bin monitoring that catches hot spots before they spread
A whole season’s income sits in a steel bin, and the thing that ruins it — a warm, damp pocket deep in the grain — makes no sound and shows no sign from the outside. Wireless sensors watch temperature and moisture around the clock, and Kilo raises the alarm while the problem is still one bushel wide.
01
Spoilage starts deep and silent
A hot spot begins as a few degrees of drift in the core of the bin. By the time you smell it at the hatch, mold and heat damage have been spreading for weeks — through grain you already counted as sold.
02
Probing by hand is slow and late
Climbing bins with a temperature probe is dangerous, takes hours, and samples a handful of points on whatever day you find time. Between two checks, a warm pocket has all the time it needs.
03
Aeration runs on habit, not data
Fans run too long and burn money, or too little and leave moisture where it sits. Without readings from inside the grain, every aeration decision is a guess with the whole harvest as the stake.

How grain bin monitoring works with Kilo
Drop wireless sensors into the grain
Battery-powered LoRaWAN or mioty sensors report temperature and moisture from inside the bin for years without a charge. One gateway at the yard covers every bin on the site — no wiring up the ladder.
Watch every bin from one dashboard
Real-time dashboards chart each bin’s temperature and moisture history side by side, so a slow upward drift stands out days before it becomes a crisis — from the house, not the catwalk.
Let rules act before you wake up
Set thresholds once: a rising core temperature alerts you by push, SMS, or email and escalates until someone reacts — and rules can trigger commands to connected equipment such as aeration controls.
Hardware, ready for the bin
Source grain-ready temperature and moisture sensors plus gateways from the Kilo Electronics store — and have us pre-configure them, so everything arrives ready to lower into the bin. No IoT team required.

Grain bin monitoring FAQ
What do grain bin sensors measure?
Temperature and moisture inside the grain mass — the two numbers that decide whether grain keeps or spoils. Any LoRaWAN, mioty, or MQTT-capable sensor works with Kilo, so you can also add ambient sensors or fan monitoring on the same gateway.
Do I need power or internet at the bins?
No. The sensors run for years on batteries, and a single gateway at the farmyard typically covers all bins on the site. The gateway needs power and a connection; the bins need nothing.
How fast will I know about a hot spot?
Readings arrive in real time, and alarms fire the moment a threshold or an unusual rise is detected. Escalation chains notify the first person by push, SMS, or email — and keep going up the list until someone resolves it. The Critical Alerts app breaks through a silenced phone at night.
Can Kilo help me run aeration smarter?
Yes. Rules can combine grain temperature and moisture readings and trigger notifications or commands to connected equipment — so fans run when the grain needs them, not on a calendar.
